As part of our ongoing commitment to community health and public well-being, Raja Ratna College of Nursing proudly organized a comprehensive Breastfeeding Awareness Programme at the local Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC) and Area Hospital.
Aligned with the global mission of World Breastfeeding Week, this initiative aimed to bridge the knowledge gap surrounding maternal and infant nutrition, empowering new and expectant mothers with essential health insights.

🌟 Empowering Mothers Through Education

The outreach event was conducted under the visionary leadership and guidance of our Principal, Dr. G. Devi, alongside our dedicated faculty members. Bringing classroom knowledge to life, our enthusiastic 3rd Year B.Sc. Nursing students spearheaded the educational sessions, interacting directly with antenatal and postnatal mothers.

The programme covered several critical pillars of early maternal and child health, including:
Exclusive Breastfeeding: Emphasizing the World Health Organization (WHO) recommendation of feeding infants exclusively with breast milk for the first six months of life.

 Correct Techniques:

Providing live demonstrations and one-on-one guidance on proper latching, comfortable positioning, and recognizing infant feeding cues.

 Maternal Nutrition:

Educating mothers on the vital role of a balanced, nutrient-rich diet to support postpartum recovery and maintain healthy milk production.

 Lifelong Benefits:

Highlighting how breastfeeding fosters infant immunity, supports cognitive development, and lowers the long-name health risks for both mother and child.

💬 A Word from Leadership

Speaking on the success of the initiative, Principal Dr. G. Devi noted:
"*Community outreach is the heartbeat of nursing education. By stepping outside the traditional classroom and into the hospital wards, our students not only sharpen their clinical communication skills but also play a direct role in shaping healthier generations. Breastfeeding is a shared responsibility, and compassionate nursing care starts by supporting mothers at the grassroots level."*

🤝 Building a Healthier Tomorrow Together

The interactive session concluded with an open-floor Q&A, allowing mothers to voice their concerns and clear up common misconceptions regarding breastfeeding. The response from the community was overwhelmingly positive, reflecting a deep eagerness among families to adopt healthier practices.
Through awareness, education, and compassionate nursing care, Raja Ratna College of Nursing remains steadfast in its mission to promote healthier mothers, healthier babies, and a brighter, healthier future.
